Granville Island Broom Co. celebrates 10 Year Anniversary and joins 1% for the Planet

Vancouver, BC – This summer, Granville Island Broom Co. marked 10 years of making fine handcrafted brooms in Vancouver.  To celebrate this milestone, artisans Mary and Sarah Schwieger are excited to announce that they have joined 1% for the Planet. From now on, they pledge to donate 1% of their revenues toward environmental causes.

Since its inception, 1% for the Planet has certified over US$250 million in support to approved environmental non-profits. Granville Island Broom Co. is proud to become part of such a powerful network of giving and look forward to their upcoming partnerships.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a huge challenge for business, according to Mary, but she said “We have been through a lot in 10 years, and it has given us time to reflect on the past decade and how we wish to move forward.” Sarah added that “1% for the Planet reflects our continued desire to prioritize sustainability and take on more responsibility for the environment.”

Mary and Sarah are committed to keeping their business going through the pandemic. While they say 2020 has been difficult, they have also experienced the love and support that many people have been extending towards small businesses. According to the artisans, this support has been inspiring and a good reminder about the impact of positive actions.
